Work & Edition Details
The piano version of Fanny Hensel’s dramatic scene Hero und Leander printed here is not merely a piano score of the orchestral version. It was composed within the space of only three days, from 21 to 23 December 1831, so that Fanny and Wilhelm Hensel could give it to the dedicatee Ulrike Peters as a Christmas present. The piano version of Hero und Leander, published here as a first edition to mark the 210th anniversary of Fanny Hensel’s birth in the commemorative year 2015, makes it possible to put on a performance of the “scene” irrespective of the availability of an orchestra.
