Aria of Nadir, from the opera "Les Pêcheurs de Perles", 1863, libretto by Michel CARRÉ, music by Georges BIZET (1838-1875), arrangement for SATB choir and piano by Emmanuel ROBIN. In Ceylon, two friends, Zurga and Nadir, meet again and evoke their childhood and their common love for Leïla. A veiled priestess arrives on the beach to protect The Pearl Fishers by her singing. Nadir recognizes Leila's voice and responds by singing this romance. Denounced by the high priest who surprised them, Leïla and Nadir will be condemned to death by Zurga, mad with jealousy... but who will end up forgiving them and helping them to escape. A choir setting on an original solo aria: it’s the crazy challenge of our "Arias be good" series (Les grands airs vous feront du bien).
