In the continuity of the Celtic Landscapes, this series of collections offers you, this time, in guitar duo, other journeys in Celtic countries. From traditional themes taken from songs, ballads or dance tunes to original pieces illustrating legends, stories and other childhood memories, these pages invite you on a musical journey, from Brittany to Galicia, from Cornwall to Scotland and from Wales to Ireland... Muirsheen Durkin This song about Irish immigration at the time of the California Gold Rush is, like the genre, quite upbeat: So, good bye Muirsheen Durkin, I'm sick and tired of working No more I'll dig the praties, no longer I'll be poor Fore as sure as my name is Carney I'll be off to California, where instead of digging praties I'll be digging humps of gold (So, Goodbye Mr. Muirsheen Durkin, I'm sick and tired of toiling Never again will I pick potatoes and be poor Fore as sure as my name is Carney I'll be off to California, where instead of digging praties I'll be digging humps of gold. ...) Bonnie Kellswater Kellswater is a small hamlet in the north of Ireland. Like many immigrant songs, this one is a poetic tale of homesickness, flowers, hills, fishy rivers and the eternally abandoned: For I love her as I love my Kellswater Like the primerose is loved by the bee Aparta Loureiro Verde During Holy Week, laurel branches are traditionally hung from church windows. It is said that they have the power to repel heavy rainfall. Apart from the vine that is the pride of Galicia, Loureiro Verde is also a traditional song from which this tune is taken: Aparta loureiro verde Deixa clarexa la lùa Que estou no medio do monte Non. vexo cousa ningunha (Spread your green laurel leaves Let the moon appear For I am in the middle of the mountain And I can't see a thing) Locquirec The village of Locquirec is situated on a peninsula that stretches out into the Bay of Lannion. From the tip of the village there is a magnificent view over a whole part of the pink granite coast. From Millau Island to Plestin and from Trebeurden to Saint-Michel en grève... Traou ar ru In the valley of the Leguer, near Tonquedec, there is a small typical village with its 17th century houses. This small, but no less typical room is dedicated to friends who used to live there, at a place called Traou Ar Ru. Trestraou It is a large sandy beach, in Perros-Guirec, located in the middle of an unusual landscape. The land and sea are dotted with pink granite rocks of incredible shapes, shaped by the water and the wind... Mousteru Mousteru is a small village located near Guingamp, in the Côtes d'Armor. Mousteru comes from the Breton "mouster" (monk) and "ruz" (red). The name of a "red monastery" appears in 1145. Easy and slow This Irish ballad was immortalised by Ronnie Dew, one of the founders of the Dubliners. A man accompanies a young girl in the evening in the town of Dungannon: And if ever you go to the town of Dungannon You can search till your eyeballs are empty or blind Be yeh lyin' or walkin' or sittin' or runnin' A girl like Annie, you never will find Llongau Caernarfon On the quayside of Caernarfon harbour in North Wales, a young boy watches the ships set sail. He dreams of going away and learning to be a sailor;: O na chawn I fynd yn llongwr A'r holl longau' nlhwytho yn yr harbwr? (Why can't I be a sailor On that ship loading in the harbour?)
