Work & Edition Details
Viral was written for and premiered at the West Dean festival in Sussex in August 2011. The title refers to the small cell of musical material – a falling and rising minor third – which multiplies, mutates, and gradually dominates the whole five minute piece. The outer sections are feverish and animated, in 12/8 time; between them is a sombre march dominated by pizzicato figures.
