Work & Edition Details
Mel Bonis has been awarded the first price at a composition contest of the music magazine “Piano Soleil” in 1891 for the piano version of this piece. The cover of the first edition shows Spanish dancers, who beat the castanets to the passionate rhythm of the waltz. Among the works of Mel Bonis, this sweeping and humorous piece has a special meaning: Even in the darkest times of oblivion, their descendants have played it on many occasions.
