Work & Edition Details
Arranged especially for virtuoso flutists Clare Southworth, Paul Edmund-Davies and Andy Findon, with pianist John Alley, and premiered at The Forge, Camden, London in November 2011 at the CD Launch of “'The Bad Tempered Flute', a collection of flute music composed by Andy Scott”.
The original version of “Salt of the Earth” was scored for solo tuba and brass band, and since this com-mission from Les Neish in 2007, many musicians have enquired, requested and commissioned arrange-ments for their instrument from the composer.
In this case, Andy undertook the arrangement as an expression of gratitude to Clare, Paul, Andy and John for their support and friendship over a number of years, and of course their amazing playing!
“Salt of the Earth” should be played metronomically with a driving Latin feel. All three flute parts are equally virtuosic with ensemble sections and solos.
