Work & Edition Details
Despite his skepticism, Bruch‘s composition Kol Nidrei enjoyed so much popularity after the Berlin premiere at the end of 1880 that arrangements for cello and piano/organ soon became available for purchase. So too the arrangement for cello and organ by Heinrich Riemann (1850-1906). With this arrangement, a significant Jewish intended work from a non-Jewish composer appears for the first time in this series. The popularity of Kol Nidrei led to the assumption that Max Bruch was Jewish. This beautiful and elegiac music was considered degenerate during the time of national-socialsim.
