Work & Edition Details
Composition and text by Dominique Plénat, for mixed four-voice choir SATB a cappella. This is the story of a single swan who can't find a wife and "mourns in dark thoughts". This fantasy for four mixed voices by Dominique Plénat, originally written for the choir he conducts, will be led by its humor to a wider diffusion. An initial formula in a closed mouth crosses the score in bits and pieces as if to dramatize it. The voices follow one another in pairs, in threes or all together in precise and rhythmic interventions. The (dubious?) pun in the subtitle, "Solétude", illustrates the indecision of the tonality. Announced in the armor in G minor, rather sad, it is interspersed with several intermediate cadenzas in G major, rather joyful. The final measure is not decisive, since a unison on the G deliberately omits the third. It is thus up to everyone to decide whether this fabulette is funny or tragic. In any case, it is an original work that requires a little concentration at the musical deciphering but will suit any choir that really wants to have fun while singing. Because, on reflection, it leans more towards laughter. Duration : circa 2’20’’
