Work & Edition Details
Although gestating over a period of a decade, these songs are linked by their texts: poems by poets of the First World War. In 'Le Christianisme', the earliest setting to be composed, impetuous gestures from the piano (germinating from a 3-note seed in the right hand) set up a context for the projection of the words; throughout the song piano and voice continue to vie for the most intense expression of the sentiments and imagery found in the text.
