Work & Edition Details
Eduard Franck undoubtedly regarded his violin sonatas as a contribution to overcoming the crisis in this genre. Ever since Beethoven and Schubert, no major works had been written, leaving aside Schumannʼs three sonatas from 1851–53. In this void between 1830 and 1880, Eduard Franckʼs violin sonatas occupy an honorable place. Sonata No. 3 op. 60 was probably written around 1876; however, it was not published until 1910, long after the composerʼs death. The printing was arranged by Eduard’s son Richard.
