Work & Edition Details
Variations Sérieuses (Op. 54) is a piece for piano solo written by Felix Mendelssohn. The composition is made up of a theme in D minor with 17 variations. Though it is thought that Mendelssohn wrote 3 sets of piano variations, this is the only one to be published in his lifetime, after being completed in June 1841.
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys Variations Sérieuses op. 54 für Klavier solo, für fortgeschrittenen Schwierigskeitsgrad und herausgegeben von Theodor Kullak, besteht aus einem Thema in d-Moll mit 17 Variationen. Mendelssohn komponierte den Zyklus im Juni 1841; es blieben die einzigen Klaviervariationen, die zu seinen Lebzeiten im Druck erschienen sind.
