With this book, we wanted to respond in a practical way to the questions and needs of dancers in terms of musical training: understanding the structure of a piece of music, the theoretical elements linked to the score, recognising intervals and rhythms, in order to be able to express the feelings they inspire even better... We hope that our explanations as musicians will help dancers in the expression of their art. Dancing is inherent to human nature. From time immemorial, people have accompanied rhythms and music with dance movements. Dancing allows us to rediscover the fluidity of these movements. The codes and styles have evolved, in line with the aesthetic criteria of each era. We have collected and classified the dances by period and style. This book is composed of 4 parts, chronological and not gradual.First part;: ancient and baroque dancesSecond part;: traditional dancesThird part;: from classical dance to our days, rhythmic exercisesFourth part;: balletsYou will find at the end of the book an index of the musical terms, works and composers quoted. Also a lexicon of the main notions used in the exercises. Finally, audio-video references are provided for most of the works studied. You will find them on the Internet (YouTube, Deezer, Spotify...)PressOnly those who have never heard the complaints of dance teachers complaining about their students' lack of musical knowledge will be able to doubt the usefulness of this music theory. This book does not replace a traditional music theory course, but it will enable any dancer with a minimum of basic knowledge of music theory to acquire the melodic, rhythmic and historical culture necessary to be a real dancer. The subtitle of the book is: "Dances from medieval times to the present day. FM exercises from the repertoire. Progressive rhythmic exercises. This subtitle does not come close to conveying the full richness of the content. The authors themselves present their work as follows: "With this book, we wanted to respond in a practical way to the questions and needs of dancers in the field of musical training: to understand the structure of a piece of music, the theoretical elements linked to the score, to recognise intervals and rhythms, in order to be able to express the feelings they inspire even better... It is impossible to summarize the whole of what is proposed: panorama of the various styles of the various countries, from the dance of the Middle Ages to the modern dance, always starting from musics which one can now listen very easily on Internet and of their partitions.
