Work & Edition Details
This composition was commissioned by Daniel Bennett, principal flautist of the Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth whom I met at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance in 2016. Bennett wanted a ‘simple piece that shows off the tone of the flute’. The piece I wrote is mostly tranquil to showcase the flute for what it is best at: slow, soaring melodies that could be sung as well as played.
