Busoni's virtuosic piano transcription of the Chaconne from Bach's Partita No. II for solo violin (BWV 1004) is an early example of the young Italian composer's interest in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The work, dedicated to Eugen d'Albert, was first published in 1893 and premiered in the same year. Since then the Chaconne has secured a permanent place in the repertoire. Busoni releases an incredible range of sonority from the original violin work, approaching at times an orchestral texture. Authoratitive Urtext edition by Paul Banks.
Die vorliegende Klaviertranskription der Chaconne aus Bachs Partita Nr. II für Violine solo (BWV 1004) ist ein frühes Zeugnis für die eingehene Beschäftigung des italienischen Pianisten und Komponisten Ferruccio Busoni (18661924) mit der Musik Johann Sebastian Bachs. Das Werk, das Eugen d'Albert gewidmet ist, wurde 1893 erstmals veröffentlicht und im selben Jahr uraufgeführt. Seither hat sich die Chaconne einen festen Platz im pianistischen Repertoire gesichert. Busoni ist es mit seiner Chaconne-Adaption vortrefflich geglückt, eine Fülle von Klangstrukturen herauszuarbeiten, die bisweilen sogar Orchesterklänge heraufbeschwören.
