Work & Edition Details
This is one of Sor’s most delightful early works, published in Paris by Meissonnier in about 1822-25 with the title Les Folies d’Espagne, variées, et un Menuet.
A theme and four variations in E minor, it is followed in the first editions by a minuet which may or may not itself be of an earlier date. It shows a natural musical gift, lyricism, and strength: surely one of the most attractive guitar pieces of this period.
In the minuet, the D.C. al Fine is editorial.
This edition comes from the new 2019 second edition of Sor’s New Complete Works for Guitar edited by Brian Jeffery. The Introduction and Index to the entire series are here in nkoda.
