Collected Dances, Variations and Tombeau

Breitkopf & Härtel publishes a continuation of Glen Wilson’s previous edition of Monsieur Couperin’s Préludes non mesurés: all the remaining works which have come down to us under the name of “Monsieur Couperin”, including the dances, the Tombeau de Blancrocher, character pieces, variations and works of uncertain authorship. It offers pieces never printed before, an extensive preface and critical report, as well as all important variant readings. With these two editions available, everyone will be able to experience what „exquisite taste“ (as François Couperin put it) in music meant to the age of Louis XIV, Versailles and the rest of France‘s Siècle d’Or. The question of who Monsieur Couperin was in regard to every single piece can never be resolved; further research has indicated that several family members may have been involved in composing music which comes down to us in a few priceless manuscripts under a family trademark: “Monsieur Couperin”.
