Work & Edition Details
Je te veux, (I want you or I desire you), first appeared as a song published in 1903. A charming waltz with sensuality and intimacy typical for the fin-de-siècle, Erik Satie later transcribed it for solo piano, a version he used for his employment in bars and cabarets. Adored by those who came in contact with him, his friends and admirers included Stravinsky and Ravel. He was a radical socialist, at the same time involved with the Dada and Surrealist movements. He wrote orchestral music for the rivalling ballet companies in Paris, Ballets Russes and Ballets Suèdois, and popular piano pieces with innovative titles, such as Trois morceaux en forme de poire (Three pieces in the shape of a pear) and Musique d’ameublement (Furniture music).
