Work & Edition Details
As the third of my lasso publications, after the "Bußtränen des heiligen Petnis' and the ,,Prophetiae Sibyliarum', the "Klagen des Hiob' for four-part choir is also presented. Adolf Sandberger refers to the work as the four-part "Neun Sacrae Lectiones ur propheta Hiob" published in 1566 (Sandberger ,,Gesammelte Schriften', Munich 1921, p. 37). The editor will publish a special study on the "Lamentations of Job" presented here, which came from a print of the State and University Library in Hamburg destroyed during the war. Here, only the reference to the remark of Otto Ursprungs may suffice, who places the composition of these profound songs already in the years 1555 or 1556, namely after the death of Lasso's mother.
