Work & Edition Details
1. Klagelaute | 2. Agnus Dei. Klagelaute was composed in 1994 in response to the war in Bosnia and sets verses of the 10th Psalm to music in translations by Martin Luther and Martin Buber. It is called Klagelaute because of the nature-like noises and sounds it contains and because - despite being framed by wild, desperate cries for God - it is actually a quiet, almost resigned piece. The tonal material is based on the first four chords of Bach's "It is enough": first, of course, for textual reasons - enough of the terrible in the world has truly happened. But then also out of compositional necessity, since these few chords already contain 10 tones of the chromatic total and only f and g had to be added in order to be able to work with the desired atonality.
