Work & Edition Details
Anton Bruckner composed the 5th Symphony between the years 1873 and 1875. The organ version presented here does not want to be understood as a substitute for the orchestral version, but as an artistic attempt to transfer the orchestral movement to another instrumental medium - the organ. The primary goal was a distinctly organistic transcription with consideration for the conditions of the organ. In order to take away from the transcription what is often foreign or awkward in arrangements for the organ, original organ compositions of the 19th century, for example by Franck or Widor, were taken as models and the knowledge gained from this study was integrated into the work presented here.
