Work & Edition Details
Schumann completed work on his 3 Romances (Op.28) in December 1839, and presented them to his wife Clara for Christmas that year, although sketches date back possibly as far as 1838. Schumann listed the Romances among the four solo piano works which he personally considered his greatest.
Schumann beendete die Arbeit an seinen 3 Romanzen op. 28 im Dezember 1839 und schenkte sie seiner Frau Clara zu Weihnachten desselben Jahres, obwohl die Skizzen möglicherweise schon aus dem Jahr 1838 stammen. Widmungsträger ist jedoch Graf Heinrich II. Reuss-Köstritz. Schumann zählte die Romanzen zu den Soloklavierwerken, die er persönlich für seine besten hielt.
