Work & Edition Details
Renaissance song by Claudin de SERMISY for four-part mixed choir restored by Jacques BARBIER. Claudin de Sermisy (ca. 1495-1562) is best known as a composer of so-called "Parisian" songs, i.e., written vertically in a homophonic manner on a love text in the tradition of courtly love. He reminds us with this song that he is an exact contemporary of François Rabelais feeding on the same scatological vein of the stories of Panurge or Pantagruel. The narrative scheme is that of couplets (the story itself) alternating with the obstinate sentence of the refrain (I do not eat pork), the musician ingenious to vary a little the writing to keep all the vivacity and the impertinence to this song gaillarde.
