A practical method for all instrumentalists, Scales for Improvisation presents a complete overview of the scales used for jazz improvisation and a detailed presentation of their different uses in all the harmonic contexts of this music. Each scale is presented in a precise manner, including all the modes derived from it, the whole constituting a practical and complete dictionary of scales. The application of these scales in all the harmonic contexts that can be encountered in jazz, from the simplest and most common to the most advanced, is then studied in an exhaustive and original way, proposing several approaches to scale/chord relationships. Application exercises, work tracks, examples of scale use on famous harmonic sequences and numerous excerpts from standards complete this method.
