Work & Edition Details
The suite presented here attempts to depict Descartes’ visit in Stockholm; his joy and high expectations, his disappointment, the misery of the Nordic winter - and in the seventh movement: death. The suite was written for the Swedish recorder player Dan Laurin. Listening to him playing Dutch music from Rembrandt’s time proved a tremendous inspiration. The suite took form immediately and was completed in the autumn of 2008. During the revision of the piece, I decided to make the music available to flautists, as well. This version is dedicated, with affection, to flautist Lena Risberg.
