Work & Edition Details
Arnulf Herrmann's sweet little matrix is an 11-minute work for string quartet. In the middle of the movement, eight Beethoven bars appear, very close to the original but not as a quotation or exact copy; rather, they are overlaid by a delicate rhythmic structure, a matrix, a background projected onto the bars, which slightly distorts the Beethoven bars themselves in this seeming quotation. sweet little matrix was premiered for the Beethoven Year by members of the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie in Saarbrücken on 18 March 2020.
This new edition (EP 14479) contains the score and parts of the work.
Arnulf Herrmanns sweet little matrix ist ein 11-minütiges Werk für Streichquartett. In der Mitte des Satzes erscheinen acht Beethoven-Takte, sehr nah am Original, aber nicht als Zitat oder exakte Kopie, sondern überlagert von einer filigranen rhythmischen Struktur, einer Matrix, einem auf die Takte projizierten Hintergrund, der die Beethoven-Takte selbst in diesem scheinbaren Zitat leicht verzerrt. sweet little matrix wurde anlässlich des Beethoven-Jahres von Mitgliedern der Deutschen Radiophilharmonie am 18. März 2020 in Saarbrücken uraufgeführt.
Die vorliegende Neuausgabe (EP 14479) enthält die Partitur und die Stimmen des Werkes.
