Work & Edition Details
"Bedrängte Zeit, vergeh!" - three pieces for choir, theorbo, violone and (chest) organ (2021/22) are the version, reduced in scope and instrumentation, of a work commissioned by ChorWerk Ruhr for voices and historical instruments, which was written in 2020/21 and whose premiere can only take place in 2023 due to the pandemic. An arc is drawn from the time of the 30-year war to the present: texts of the 17th century that still touch us today, which tell of human violence and pose questions about transience, death and hope, are creatively illuminated, and the basso continuo instruments of this era are used. The composition is designed to be easily performed in the medium-tone tuning common to Renaissance and early Baroque music (465 Hz. or 440 Hz. can be chosen as the pitch). Thus, the pieces can be combined in a concert with works of the 17th century, which is quite in the spirit of the composer.
