Work & Edition Details
"Multaqa" is an Arabic word meaning "meeting." This work is a tribute to the multicultural coexistence that took place in Spain in the s. XIII in cities like Toledo and Cordoba where Arabs, Jews and Christians lived in harmony and shared spaces and knowledge. Therefore, the work is seen as a construction, from the disintegration of materials, of Christian origin, Jewish and Arab. Starting from the cells of these elements, the entire piece is made by constructing a new discourse from old items where items Arabs, Jews and Christians are mixed to build a joint project and unified. Besides, these initial elements generate various parameters such as harmony (using chords multiplication systems), counterpoint, texture, rhythm, etc.
The initial materials are: Cantiga 371 of King Alfonso X "The Wise", Sephardic folk song "Quando el rey Nimrod" and Traditional Scales "Maqam" Arabs.
