Work & Edition Details
Piccoli preludi lirici is a collection of three short piano pieces born from a personal exploration of lyricism, expressivity, and freedom in both harmonic and melodic language. These preludes do not seek to follow a particular formal constraint or stylistic imitation, but rather aim to evoke fleeting emotional states—moments of suspension, intimacy, and inner reflection. Each prelude was conceived as a companion to a specific movement from Franz Schubert’s last three piano sonatas. The first prelude is meant to precede the opening movement of the Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960; the second prelude is paired with the slow movement of the Sonata in A major, D. 959; and the third prelude introduces the Scherzo (third movement) of the Sonata in C minor, D. 958. In this sense, the preludes offer a kind of poetic threshold—a space to pause and attune oneself before entering the expansive world of Schubert’s final works. At the same time, these preludes are designed to stand on their own. Played consecutively, they form a miniature cycle that invites reflection and quiet attention.
