Preface by Christa Kirschbaum, Ulf-Peter Miethe und Renate Matthei. The book of organ music you see before you is a special one. In it you will discover three organ works by the well-known Fanny Hensel, née Mendelssohn and compositions by six contemporary women musicians. Now, a collection of different musical works is nothing unusual. However, as you will realise, these organ pieces – some of them specially dedicated – have a deeper significance. This book of music is dedicated to Elke Mascha Blankenburg. She was a church musician, choral and orchestral conductor, discoverer and pioneer. Mascha’s life’s work was devoted above all to the subject of “woman and music”. She was one of the main initiators and co-founders of the working group of the same name (in German) “Frau und Musik”.
