Work & Edition Details
Drawing its inspiration from Iraqi Jewish music, this 7.5-minute piano solo is based on an Iraqi folk melody, ‘D’ror Yikra’, and describes in music the text written by Morrocan poet, linguist and musician, Dunash ben Labrat, in 960 CE. Opening with extended techniques (plucking strings inside the piano), the sections of this piece alternate between longing and anger.
Dieses von der irakisch-jüdischen Musik inspirierte 7,5-minütige Klavierstück basiert auf der irakischen Volksmelodie „D'ror Yikra“. Der Text des marokkanischen Dichters, Sprachwissenschaftlers und Musikers Dunash ben Labrat aus dem Jahr 960 n.Chr. wird auf eindrucksvolle Weise in Musik gefasst. Das Stück beginnt mit erweiterten Spieltechniken (Zupfen der Klaviersaiten), gefolgt von Abschnitten, die zwischen Sehnsucht und Wut hin und herwechseln.
