Work & Edition Details
The wish to transcribe the 13th song from the second book of Zigeunerlieder, op.103, came via a concert which included my friends Anne Sofie von Otter and Bengt Forsberg. It was a moving occasion. I left the hall with cellist Lynn Harrell, and as we walked down Wigmore Street in London, both still silent in awe of the beautiful music and the great perfomance, he read my thoughts when he said with a smile, ‘...makes you wanna practise, doesn’t it!...’. The scoring is for two voices and two pianos. The obvious challenge has been to make two pianos into one.
