Concerto n. 3 in La maggiore

An authentic turning point in violin composing, the Violin Concertos of Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755-1824) combine the qualities of phrasing, cantability and technical innovation that paved the way for a revolution of the solo form. The Concerto No. 3 in A Major WI:3 (G. 25) is the first ever composed by Viotti, at the age of fourteen. With its complex publishing history, this work already clearly manifests the composer’s style, his mastery of the technical resources of the instrument, and his exquisite ability to dialogue with the orchestra, all of which would result in the emergence of a new sensibility.
