Work & Edition Details
Violist Peter van Praagh received the piece as a gift from the composer to play in services. Blue Encounter offers a deeply religious experience. Martin Hoondert, university lecturer in music and religion in Tilburg, said about this piece: 'It feels like I'm walking around in a cathedral of music and marvelling at the mystery'. It is about two opposing forces: massive and ruthless versus round, connecting, melodious and fragile. The two forces eventually come together. Composer Joep Franssens calls these forces male and female and he calls the result love. This is the version for flute.
