Work & Edition Details
Violist Peter van Praagh received the piece as a gift from the composer to play in services. Blue Encounter offers a deeply religious experience. Martin Hoondert, university lecturer in music and religion in Tilburg, said about this piece: 'It feels like I'm walking around in a cathedral of music and marvelling at the mystery'. It is about two opposing forces: massive and ruthless versus round, connecting, melodious and fragile. The two forces eventually come together. Composer Joep Franssens calls these forces male and female and he calls the result love.
