Work & Edition Details
The title 'Root' has a number connotations; it conjurers up the image of tree roots slowly moving, changing and growing. The term also comes from a music term meaning the root or bottom note of a chord. The title also has links with the idea of considering your own personal 'roots' and the idea of 'home'. 'Root' was composed as part of a collaboration with saxophonists Emma Jones and Ellie Parker. Through conversations with the duo they expressed a number of interests such as melody. I wanted to explore the idea of melody and texture but also allow the duo some element of freedom in the music. Please note that due to the nature of this work, it is only available as a score and parts set.
