Work & Edition Details
"Drifting Sand" for string trio is a one-movement work consisting of several sections. It was commissioned by the Belgian Transit Festival in Leuven 2011 for the ensemble recherche. The architectural arrangement of the entire composition can be described as a wave that appears in the microstructures as many very fast, sparkling sections. These can be seen as a gesture, whirling into melody clouds, into dense veils, moving like drifting sand. The central cello solo is more a static interruption than a contrast to the other sections in which dense sound always erodes in movement and volume. From Ensemble Reserche´s programme notes.
