Work & Edition Details
Commissioned by de Bijloke Ghent World Premiere by Isabelle Moretti on March 8th 2007 at de Bijloke Stanza was selected for the ISCM Vlaanderen scores of 2008. Annelies says 'Stanza is a term from poetry, which you could translate freely as 'strophe'. My stanza for harp solo is a lyrical poem as it were, consisting of 5 poetic lines, with a cyclic form: ABbBA. The central parts are lyrical and lead to a Lamento, whilst the corner parts are dynamic and show a more muscular side of the harp. The entire work tries to showcase the harp's many - specifically lesser-known- facets. Many special timbres are acquired by using different playing techniques, without using extreme materials. Everything is perfectly doable, but stretches the harpist to his/her technical limits.'
