Work & Edition Details
"Land Or. .. " was written by experimenting into Schönberg's 12-tone row composition aesthetics. This short essay was inked during the COVID-19 lockdown, and it was inspired after completing Stanford's University online course called "The New World of Arnold Schönberg's Piano Music".
The composition works around the techniques of transpositions, retrograde inversions, elongation of the motifs, and more. The piece involves a subtle preparation of the piano and inclusion of a toy piano, for diversity purposes. Needless to say, these features could be avoided should the resources be scarce, and a performer could perfectly play it on a single piano.
The obligation of writing a piece within a single page challenged myself to work meticulously and concisely. The title of the piece is an anagram of Schönberg's first name.
