Work & Edition Details
PANTALEÓN is to be performed with rhythmic precision and bold character. The piece fuses the polyrhythmic drive of tango and milonga (4/4 with a 3+3+2 subdivision) with shifting accents for added depth and innovation. It blends yearning harmonies, percussive textures, and a sense of nostalgia and beauty drawn from the streets of my home city, Buenos Aires.
PANTALEÓN was deeply inspired by Acentuado, the third movement from Astor Piazzolla’s Cinco Piezas para Guitarra—one of the pieces that earned me First Prize in Senior Classical Guitar at the 125th edition of Ireland’s Feis Ceoil (2021), the country’s largest classical music festival.
The title of this work is taken from Piazzolla’s middle name.
