Work & Edition Details
A Requiem for Mr William Lawes is a contemporary work for male voices and viol trio with texts by Thomas Fuller, Antony Wood and John Jenkins. The music evokes and quotes passages and harmonies from Lawes’ consort music; the unresolved dissonances, sometimes verging on atonality, the quirky off-kilter rhythmic structures, and the vocal quality of the lines.
A Requiem for Mr William Lawes was first performed on 7 September 2016 by Gallicantus at The Trigonale Festival, Austria.
