Work & Edition Details
Franz Schubert's 3 Sonatinas for violin & piano (Op. 137). New edition based on original sources by Klaus Burmeister. The circumstances that led Schubert to compose these three works are unknown, but it is safe to assume that they were all performed at the highly regarded private recitals later known as "Schubertiades."Schubert himself a player of the violin, viola and piano, was most likely among the performers.
Schuberts Violin-Sonatinen sind für das Musizieren „in der intimen Kammer“ gedacht und orientieren sich damit eher an Mozarts Sonaten als an virtuosen Werken wie Beethovens „Kreutzersonate“, die sich eher für den Konzertsaal eignen. Dennoch beeindrucken die 3 Sonatinen mit ihrer für Schubert so typischen Melodik und dem harmonischen und satztechnischen Formbau, den der damals erst 19-jährige Komponist bereits großartig beherrschte.
