Work & Edition Details
In the case of the undated String Quintet in D minor, circumstantial evidence must be used to place it in the composer's catalog of works. Since it was performed one year later than a previously presented quintet in D major (published under the edition number fue 10385), it may be considered the third work in this series from approximately 1855. The score is written with the greatest care, and apparently the composition was particularly well done in Mayer's eyes as well, for she sent the work to Franz Liszt with a request for a piano arrangement. He kindly declined, but at the same time expressed his great appreciation. The work is of medium difficulty.
