Concerto

One prefers titles in which a musical process is named metaphorically: "Folded Time", "Refraction of Light", "Crystalline", etc., which makes perfect sense if the 'content' of the music, its characteristic gestures, is aptly captured and designated. On the other hand, it is precisely through the title that such pieces elude confrontation with the genre. They present themselves as something completely different, which cannot be approached with a judgemental comparison. But I did not want to be guilty of this shirking, which is understandable in view of the superiority of the classical masters and the abundance of successful and perfect works, and so I conventionally and courageously call my piece CONCERT. That it would nevertheless allow a gestural characterisation, which would also justify 'fancy' titles, I will outline in the following.
