Work & Edition Details
During a visit with my sister in 2018, I discovered a book of nursery rhymes read to us by our mother when we were toddlers, a period in life when once doesn’t have to combat the racism, greed, jingoism, hate-speech and corruption generated by politicians like Donald Trump and destructive ventures like Brexit (Great Britain’s 2016 people’s referendum which is leading to its break from the European Union).
With a few interjections about a bus which goes ‘round and ‘round with a dubious message, the lyrics of these 14 nursery rhymes are unaltered from the children’s book. The collection is dedicated to mezzo-soprano Emily Howard Cobley who has brought to life with incomparable versatility some of my other cabaret works.
