Composed in 1936, the Concertino in Classical Style, Op. 3 (B. 9), for piano and chamber orchestra occupies a privileged place in Dinu Lipatti’s youthful output, clearly illustrating the moment when his compositional thinking attains a remarkable degree of coherence and maturity. The work belongs to the Paris period and fits within an artistic context dominated by the interest in rethinking historical forms and languages through a neoclassical lens — an orientation that profoundly marks the European musical climate of the 1930s.
