Zoom In • Und säume dich nicht • Elegie
The cycle “Three Piano Pieces” is in a way a compilation of three piano pieces. The first and most extensive one is called “Zoom in”. It is a study of the fifth, but already during the study of this interval the study loses its subject because the fifth proves to be a frame for smaller units: triads and modulating scales. It even makes a detour into a completely strange world. It sets in motion a movement forward which is uncertain of its origin and its purpose. There are two more piano pieces left, to put them into a formal balance. These in turn come from a completely different context: a song cycle about transience. In “Und säumen dich nicht” there is a melody hidden in an quai unworked stone of constantly repeating fifth chords. Finally, the “Elegie” is derived from a song with strong tonal references. However, these are not based on a cadence structure, but arise from an iridescent movement in thirds over the circumference of three tones. All methods of deconstruction have no effect on the gravity of the tonal material. Combined with the voice of the pianist, they open a strange intimate space, starting point and destination at the same time.
