Work & Edition Details
A cabaret song is short, directly engaging with the audience. It takes a stance on issue, and puts it under the spotlight.
Fuzzy Logic Song picks up several issues which were aired at a musical gathering in London, which I attended in 1999. The song is concerned with clarity - intended or accidentally (un)successful - in music, and how the composer (mal)functions in society. Like many of my works, Fuzzy Logic Song is music about music, with its unavoidable embedded social issues.
The ensemble who commissioned the song in 1999 decided not to perform it; perhaps the lyric's open policies were best left hidden. I arranged the worker three immensely talented friends - Emily Howard Cobley, John Turner and Adam Swayne - who gave the premiere at the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, Manchester on 29 November 2018.
