Work & Edition Details
A short, impulsively speaking prelude is followed by a middle movement flowing in quiet quarters, in which string lines initially determine the action. Then the piano creeps in - accompanied by the double bass - and works its way more and more into the foreground, dominating the action for a short time before fading into nothingness, the strings interweave again, and finally they too disappear. But the first violin remains behind and rises to the highest pitch, where in the end only a toneless string noise remains. A metrically rhythmically pronounced final movement with a slow centre ends this quarter of an hour of music.
