"The Canti populari da Napoli e degli Abruzzi are a stimulation with local knowledge from our beautiful Italy, a memory vademecum and a gift to the country and its people. For this purpose, I had procured five original melodies, had the crude texts translated and added folkloristic verve to the piano part. In "Cicuzza" and "Crudel Irene" an unfaithful woman is insulted, in "Nel tuo letto" and "I sospiri" a beauty is pined over - something for tenors - and in "I maccheroni" a hand is held out for a mild gift. "Ecco il Vesuvio! Cento lire."
