Work & Edition Details
The twelve dances are arranged in order, not just as individual pieces. As can be seen, nos. 1, 3, etc., begin and end in A major and have no D.C., while nos. 2, 4, etc., end their second half in C and then have a D.C. al Fine so that the entire piece ends again in A. Whether this arrangement has anything to do with the dance, or whether rather it is an elegant way to arrange the pieces for publication, I don’t know. No. 12 is all in A and rounds off the set with a flourish, which seems to show that the entire set was conceived as a whole.
